prayer hug

We managed to get on the road just about on time.  The plan was to leave at 6am.  I hate 6am.  But I am figuring on a 17 hour trip.  If I leave at 6am there is a chance I would arrive by 11pm.  Long hard day of driving.  Especially if you understand that I will be doing all of the driving – Ladybug refuses to help out with that.

I remembered to set the alarm for 5am.  I even woke up at 5am when it went off.  I hit the snooze but at least I woke up.  Long story short is that we were strapped into the car and the engine was running at 6:09am.  Not bad.

I dropped some books off at the library.  I dumped the trash – so glad I remembered that.  And then the long trek began.

We had skipped breakfast.  Not because I think breakfast is not important.  I love breakfast.  The reality is that I did not want to take the time to cook or clean up.  I just wanted to leave.  But breakfast was going to be necessary.  I was going to get hungry.  Ladybug was going to get hungry.  So we stopped.  Junk food – travel days are always full of junk food.

We stopped and ate.  As we were leaving a couple is walking out in front of us.  They are probably in their sixties.  As we walk out the door together she asks if we are heading out early to hit all that yard sales.  I have no idea why she would assume that but I give a simple answer.

Mama: Nope, heading to X State today.
Lady: Oh, does that take about 9 hours?
Mama: Well, where we are going I am guessing it will take about 17 hours.
Lady: Oh my, that is a long day.  Are you going to visit family?
Mama: My mom.
Lady:  Well then I will pray for you.

I smile politely (because as seen here you know I am not the religious type).  I say thank you and start to walk away.  But then I hear this…

Lady:  Earl.  Earl!  We need to say a pray.  Come over here so we can pray for this family to have a safe trip today.

I shoot Ladybug a look that is basically meant to say "just go with it" when I realize that I am the only one uncomfortable with prayer.

And that is how I ended up in a 4 way prayer hug in the Burger King parking lot at about 8am on a Saturday morning when I really just wanted to be driving.

Mean Mama
