It was time to take out the hair style. I was hesitant this time. Partially because I was dumb enough to put micro braids in for the summer. Partially because camp has a break out of lice. But it has been 5-6 weeks and she has been swimming almost everyday. And it was looking shabby.
So on Friday I started the process of unbraiding. I hate micro braids.
Let me say that again... I HATE micro braids.
But I took the beads out on Friday. And then I started the process of taking out the braids. I continued on Saturday... for a good portion of the day. And I finished it today.
10 hours! To take the style out. That is just wrong.
Then I had to wash and condition and moisturize and style again. Because there is lice. And her hair gets tangled.
So I stuck her in the tub. Her hair was in 4 chunky braids. I wanted to avoid combing of the hair as much as possible so as I finished unbraiding a section of hair I would braid it before it had a chance to tangle. So I took one braid out at a time and washed it and then slathered on conditioner and combed it out with a pick in the tub. Then I braided it again... without rinsing the conditioner out. When all 4 sections had been done I unbraided them again and straightened out the part. And french braided 2 big chunky braids from front to back.
Done.
It took 10 hours to take out and 20 minutes to put in.
It won't last the week but I don't care because she can go off to camp tomorrow and not worry about it.
And I loved combing it out in the tub with all that water and conditioner. I need to remember to do that more often.
