In January I did research. I spent hours on the internet. I spent hours writing emails. I spent hours printing and organizing a notebook. I found houses my mom could buy. I found houses I hoped I could buy.
In February, I traveled to this town with my mom to do the actual house hunting. We saw about 30 houses in 2 days. Sometimes it was easy to say no -- like the kitchen that was missing a wall or a floor that was painted in a psychedelic pattern. Sometimes if was harder. Nice house, nice basement, nice woodwork but not near enough room. Sometimes it was even harder -- everything looked perfect but the attic turned out to not be insulated or the heating system was not up to code. And who would have thought that walking around houses was exhausting? Besides Ladybug.
By the end of the week my mom had put in an offer. She now currently lives in that house and is happy with her choice.
I have been unable to find a job so I can not move there. I can not buy a house. But I found one. It was one I put on my mom's list. It was out of my price range. But I loved it instantly. I couldn't understand how my mom was willing to just pass it up. I want it. And now that 3 months have passed they have dropped the price. And it is now in a price range that I might be able to afford. And it hasn't sold. I just need to find a job first.
I have been paying rent for 20 years. If I were paying a mortgage I would be 10 years away from paying it off. If I am lucky enough to buy a house I love, I promise to retire late so that I can afford it. Can I just need a job that allows me to buy it. Anybody...anybody...bueller???
